The fact that Crimea, with the filing of Uncle Chrou-Hru, was transferred to the Ukrainian SSR in honor of the 300th anniversary of the adoption of Pereyaslavskaya Rada, everyone knows. And this transfer laid under the relationship of two peoples of a slow motion bomb.

But few people know that in Khrushchev there was another project to withdraw part of the territories of not even one, and at once three regions and their mergers into the new area. And most of these the most «knowledgeable» still regrets that this forgotten project was never implemented.

And the name of this project is the Magnitogorsk region.

Magnitogorsk — the city is unique in all respects. This is the only city of this scale (420 thousand inhabitants), which is not regional. Take the same Pskov, Rostov, Vologda, Kostroma and several more dozen regional cities that are less than the legendary magnetic, but are regional centers.

And, which is very important, around the magnets are full of small towns and villages that have had a similar focus — black metallurgy and mechanical engineering: Beloretsk, Arshinsk, Tylarla, Kaga, Awzyan, Baimak, Sibay, a manganese mine on Oz. Bath, teaching, Northern Kazakhstan.

So they thought in Moscow (and specifically — in the Ministry of Black Metallurgy of the USSR) that there is no order to have such a big city in different regions in different regions. It would be necessary to combine them in one super-pupper-metallurgical region — Magnitogorsk.

Moreover, the precedents were already — from the composition of the Novosibirsk region, the Tomsk region was allocated.

For this, it was planned to pick up a part of the territory of Bashkiria, part of the territory of Northern Kazakhstan and to combine these land with the south of the Chelyabinsk region. The new area as part of the RSFSR would have one of the largest industrial potentials in Russia not only on already operating production, but also in the explored reserves of underground fossils.

The project of the new region united the full metallurgical cycle: from the extraction of ore in Bashkiria and Northern Kazakhstan, to its interlocking in Magnitogorsk and further processing in Beloretsk and Verkhneuralsk. In Beloretsk, it was planned to build the newest mill on the redistribution, and in Verkhneuralsk, huge engineering production.

All industrial centers in the new region had to connect a network of high-speed railways, no less branched automotive highways was launched, several huge reservoirs were planned. Each detail of the new plan was economically recovered and calculated.

By the summer of 1954, the project of the Magnitogorsk region was finally formed.

But then the Force, who did not show themselves before: the leadership of the National Republics. They perfectly understood that thus losing not only land, but also significant potential for receiving money from the center for the development of their industry.

The project of creating the Magnitogorsk region Lög, as was mentioned, under the Sukno, thanks to the decisive act of the leaders of the Bashkir ASSR. They arrived in Magnitogorsk to the head of the A.F. Combine Borisov and promised him two things: the right to enjoy the earth (around the lake. Bath and give the land for the construction of the airport) and «help with a quarry.»

The folder lay on the table at the senior manual, was ready for the draft decree, it remained only to put a signature. The case remained for the management of MMK, which said … No.

As soon as the MMK management refused to support the plan for creating a new area, the project quickly «buried» in the archive. For this, the city allocated land in now the resort districts of Bashkiria, the development of which began only after 10 years. Well, the director of MMK Borisov, in the same 1954, went to an increase in Moscow, where he became the Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Committee of the USSR.

So in the USSR, one of the most «heavy» regions — Magnitogorskaya did not appear. Many believe that a serious blow to the industrial development of the south of the Urals was inflicted. But we can only regret it.
