Remember the phrase: «At the time when our space ships are furious to the universe …». As for this «devilish» glass — the same situation.
Just imagine: the end of the 17th century, the Epoch of Enlightenment, all enlightened and not very residents of Europe comprehend science and literacy, Toricelli created a barometer, measured the speed of light. Bacon shouted in the whole Ivanovo «Knowledge — Power»! And on the other hand, gloomy monks are sitting, counting how many souls there is a chemist-doctor for the production of glass, and the requirement to burn this very physician at the bore.
The reason for this most severe requirement that does not fit with the era of the enlightenment was the devilish glass, glass, which is unable to create a simple mortal, glass of Satan, Adovo glass, a glass of human blood — all this is about him —
Many mistakenly believe that any red glass is ruby, but it’s not entirely right. Ruby glass (gold ruby) is considered bright red, absolutely transparent glass that does not have green shades. In our workshop of such glass (right now) a little more than two sheets and this would be enough for the Inquisition in the Middle Ages, we quickly delighted the entire composition on the grill.
Well, now actually about the «Golden Ruby».
In antiquity it was believed that the classic color palette includes 8 colors. 7 of them were obtained by masters-glasswakes still in Egypt. And with the latter — the eighth were the problems. This, as you already understood, transparent bright red glass. To get at least someone resembling a red color transparent glass was able only to Romans and then it was a little different, and it was only red on the lumen (Likurg Cup), so it is believed that there was no red transparent glass in the antiquity.
In the Middle Ages, you yourself understand, only alchemists can take on the creation of red glass, but the Holy Inquisition quickly scattered their ranks with their «burning fires.» Therefore, there were no breakthroughs on this front.
With the beginning of the Epoch of Enlightenment, the situation has changed and many people began to engage in chemistry (with a small loaf of the monks — maybe not helping). The first person who decided to cook bright red glass was the Frenchman Bernard Perro. In 1868, the Louis-Sun itself gave the highest permission to create red glass — he really wanted to improve the interiors of Versailles.
But the color of his glass was not too red, and there were problems with transparency. Although, in general, Bernard was on the right track, as I decided to paint the glass with gold. Plus him in Karma, which shared his recipe with other scientists.
The race for getting a ruby glass included almost all who at least minimally cut in chemistry. After a couple of years, the purple glass received a German, a doctor by education, glauble, a year later another Frenchman — Cassius.
And then there was a breakthrough: German alchemist Johann Kunkel announced that he was able to cook real ruby glass without any parasitic shades. Glass turned out so beautiful and bloody-red that the Inquisition was excited and announced Kunknel enemy №1.
According to the indictment, the alchemist Kunkel to receive the secret of the «Golden Ruby» from Satan, 99 souls spawned, and in production, with each cooking glass used blood. Understanding that he is waiting for an extraordinary express order on the fire, the cunkin turned to Friedrich Wilhelm and showed him all the ingredients and the whole process of cooking glass.
The latter was so impressed with the result, as well as the promise of a cunning alchemist to earn a bunch of drugs for the treasury, that the monks said «guys, cool, Cunkel has a roof.» After that, a special plant was built, which was guarded by the Guards not only from the Inquisition, but also from spies that massively tried to find out the secret of the Golden Rubin’s cooking.
That is how it turned out the first in the world, a truly red transparent glass, which was called «Golden Ruby». This was the missing 8th color in the classic colors palette. He appeared later than everyone, and because of the inclusion in its composition of gold, it was worth just a fabulous money (for 1 service it was possible to buy a house).
That is why «Golden Ruby» is called the most expensive and youngest.
And his inventor Kunkel was able to worklessly work out at the factory just 4 years. In 1868, Friedrich Wilhelm died and the Inquisition, which sharpened to the alchemist tooth, said: «Atu him, it is necessary to finish what we did not finish!» Without waiting for the inevitable, the alchemist disappeared. He was looking for, but did not find it.
The production of «Golden Ruby» ceased for 31 years. After that, it was revived at the same factory, by the other German, who analyzed the purchases of Cunkel (Long live, German pedantic) and simply repeated mixing substances. It was already the 18th century, the inquisition of the former strength and influence did not have.
